Croatia
Thinking of booking a holiday on the Dalmatian Coast, myself, the wife & our 2 year old daughter. We've not had a break since our littlen was born so really looking forward to getting away.
Ideally looking for a family friendly hotel & preferably near a nice beach. (Prefer a beach over the pool) also like to take in a bit of the usual culture etc

Me & the mrs went to hvar for a family wedding a few years back & loved it, but wouldn't consider it ideal for a toddler, thinking the end of the month as it'll still be warm but not to hot for the littlen.

Anyone recommendations would be greatly appreciated,

Dubrovnik is absolutely gorgeous. The old City is not only well preserved but excellent in terms of restaurants and bars, unlike Vatican City for example, which is all Popes and no piss!

I spent some time North on Istria Peninsular some years ago, that to was excellent.

I look forward to going down that Adriatic coast next time I am over in that part of the world.

After 3 weeks of storm chasing this year from the Mexican border into Canada, the highlight was seeing a baby black bear in a pine forest in Saskatchewan.
Amazing little thing.

Defjam, I will let you know.

You would probably want to come to Plitvice and take a few snaps ;-)

NR - If you need a photographer to chronicle the trip?

When i was in Italy a couple of months ago on a bus going to Trieste, it broke down and i ended up talking to a couple from Milton Keynes, they were travelling to and through Croatia, a bloke sitting near us was from there and he told them everywhere to go and not to go, wish I'd taken notes now as i do want to travel round those parts!
By the sounds of it, as rios says, transportation is very good.

Excellent!

Cheers, Rios.

I was hoping to just book a flight and go and rock up to B&Bs on the day. Keep the pre-holiday planning very minimal and move around the country as the whim takes me.

Very easy nurse, public transport is very good, buses and trains and also coaches. Its also cheap.

Remind me later and I'll try to dig out the accom links for you.

Re: Croatia
How feasible is it (in terms of doing it on the cheap and ease of room bookings on the day) to land somewhere in the north of Croatia and gradually work your way down through Plitvice and then the coastal route, staying a few days here and there, ending up in Dubrovnik for about 5 days? Total trip time 2-3 weeks and without a car. Really cheap accommodation, and for one person only. Autumn next year.

w4hammer, Kefalonia is great, and no moody Croats.

I cant recall how it happened, but I managed to get into a few conversations about the war (ie the serb-croat-bosnain war) in the former Yugoslavia. None end well. Managed to by accident wind up a serb so much in Lublijana that he looked hell bent on starting it again on his own.

Why would you mention the war??

I now someone who went there for a month and said they would never go back, right moody bunch the Croats apparently.

Couldnt agree less- people are brilliant ( and not in the smiling through gritted teeth shit the spanish do).

There is one problem with croatia, there aint many sandy beaches although Brac as detailed earlier has a cracking beach- albeit a bit pebbley

If you really want a sandy beach and nothing too commercial, try Kefalonia- fly direct in- this is a super hotel we stayed at for a couple of days last year - the beach is fucking enormous- I think thompson do holidays there but we did it direct
